We feel that kindergarten is an integral part of the elementary school, and that it has an important contribution to make to the entire education of the child. Kindergarten provides a relaxed atmosphere in which each child has the opportunity to succeed, to be creative, and to grow socially, emotionally, intellectually, and physically. Personality and character needs are fulfilled through individual guidance and through shared experiences.

OAKS offers an intentionally small classroom setting in order to meet the unique gifts and needs of its students. The school provides a well rounded program to encourage social, emotional, spiritual, physical, and intellectual growth in its students. Excellence is the goal to be attained by all.

The OAKS curriculum is based on the requirements of the General Conference of Seventh-day Adventists Office of Education. The methods of teaching may include units of study, such s “Indians of the Southeast”’ and all the subjects (Bible, English, math, science, ad social studies) may be taught as a part of this unit. Each unit may include field trips, resource personnel and “hands-on” activities. Students may be required to do research, creative writing, and special projects on a regular basis. Subjects such as art, instrument, choir, music appreciation, and piano are taught to enhance the fine arts of the elementary student.

OAKS offers a complete networked computer lab for 5th-8th grade students. Students in grades 5-8 will receive instruction in computer literacy, keyboarding and how to use the computer as a tool to enhance and reinforce their studies. Students have access to the INTERNET and must have a signed Computer Usage Agreement before INTERNET access is provided.

Curriculum requirements of the Georgia-Cumberland Conference of Seventh-day Adventists are that all students in grades 1-8 be involved in one area of music instruction. We offer the following music programs: K-4 are given classroom instruction, students in grades 5-8 are offered band or music appreciation. Students are responsible for any class work missed while attending private lessons. Private piano and guitar lessons may be arranged to be taken during regular school hours. There will be a band fee of $300.00 for the year charged at $30.00 per month for ten months on the student’s monthly statement. (This will cover lessons with the band instructor, rent of bow tie and cummerbund and band music.)

Diploma Requirements: Students meeting eighth grade academic requirements will receive a diploma. Those not meeting the academic requirements will receive a certificate of completion.
